It Was Only A Matter Of Time...
Mood:  mischievious

Well, it's been a long time coming.  I guess it was almost inevitable that I would start a blog.  I just didn't think it would be a graded assignment!  haha

What really got me addicted to the internet was Napster, back in '99.  That was the "killer ap" that did it for me.   At my old job, I had a lot of downtime.  This gave me a lot of free time to go on the web.   This led to me reading a lot of entertainment/gossip-style sites, which are actually blogs ( www.perezhilton.com, www.wwtdd.comwww.tmz.com ).  If entertainment news broke, I was to be the one reporting it to my co-workers!

I used to IM a lot, too.  I lived alone as a bachelor in Hoboken and left AIM on all night.  Sometimes I'd have 5 or 6 conversations going on at once!

April 2002 marked my involvement on a popular (now-defunct) nightlife message board (VIPGuestlist.com).  I posted over 10,000 times on that site.  That's right, over 10,000 posts!  People actually congratulated you when you hit certain milesones (ie:  1000 posts).  Unlike Ed Tech's forum, we had avatars, titles below our name (like "King of the Board") and the ability to embed videos. (Of course, all of that would be just a bit out of place in a school-related forum!)  I used to moderate the main forum.  This gave me the ability to move threads, "pin" threads, ban "trolls," and lock conversations.  This invariably led to a lot of drama.  We did have fun, though...  Every so often the board would organize a "meet-up" at trendy club in NYC.  I brought my wife to one of these events.  Everybody started calling me by my board name.  They joked about threads from the board.  My wife thought I was in some secret cult.  haha

Then came myspace.   I joined about 3 years ago.  Almost immediately, I learned how to "pimp" up my page.  Most of my message board junkies also had myspace accounts, so my friends list grew exponentially.  Then I convinced my co-workers to all join.  At first some of the guys thought it was "beneath" them.  That all changed when a bunch of them went out on St. Patty's Day and the girls they met gave them their myspace pages, rather than phone numbers!

All the while, I never got around to starting my own blog.  I've just been too busy, I guess, in other places (board forums, myspace bulletins).  I even subscribed to some on myspace (Kevin Smith has a good one, btw).  But, I'm here now... on the dark side..........  It was only a matter of time...

Cool
